Warehouse workers help support the functions of a warehouse, including receiving, storing and shipping goods. For example, they may primarily handle the forklift operation and move goods within the facility.
Common duties include:
- Unloading incoming shipments and checking their paperwork, such as purchase orders
- Inspecting shipments for damaged or missing products
- Organizing items and storing them in the correct location
- Picking and transporting items to fulfill orders
- Packing, labeling and documenting items for outgoing shipping
- Processing and documenting returns and reshelving items
- Entering incoming and outgoing items into warehouse management systems (WMS) like Oracle WMS
- Operating machinery such as forklifts, pallet jacks and automated systems
- Cleaning and organizing warehouse work areas to support fire safety, such as designating areas for flammable materials
